Welcome to Greek Week 2009

San Diego State University's Greek Week is the biggest Greek Philanthropy of the year.  Hundreds of members from the Greek community unite through friendly competitions in efforts to raise funds and awareness for a selected beneficiary.

Operation Global Vision has been chosen as the 2009 Greek Week spotlight.  Operation Global Vision is a project created by The Global Health and Education Foundation and The Lions Club Internation Foundation in order to supply Cataract eye surgeries to the neediest in the world.  For every $40 that the SDSU Greek community donates, Operation Global Vision's partners will match our donation 100% providing 1 Cataract eye surgery!

Get involved!  Greek Week 2009 invites EVERYONE to join in on this global movement.  The Greek community will be hosting various events in hopes of reaching our goal of donating over $50,000 to Operation Global Vision.

Facts about Cataract Blindness!

• It is estimated that 17.6 million people are blind from cataract
• Cataract causes about 48% of all blindness
• Cataract blindness can be easily treated, yet most sufferers are unable to afford or access treatment
• The number of cataract causes is likely to double in the next 20 years due to the aging world populations
• In some developing countries, the rate of cataract surgery is less than 250 operations per million people per year.  This compares to a rate of up to 8,000 in some developed countries
